Regulatory circuits of mitophagy restrict distinct modes of cell death during memory CD8 < sup > + < /sup > T cell formation
Sci Immunol. 2023 Sep 29;8(87):eadf7579. doi: 10.1126/sciimmunol.adf7579. Epub 2023 Sep 22.ABSTRACTMitophagy, a central process guarding mitochondrial quality, is commonly impaired in human diseases such as Parkinson's disease, but its impact in adaptive immunity remains unclear. The differentiation and survival of memory CD8+ T cells rely on oxidative metabolism, a process that requires robust mitochondrial quality control. Here, we found that Parkinson's disease patients have a reduced frequency of CD8+ memory T cells compared with healthy donors and failed to form memory T cells upon vaccination against COVID-19, highli...

Continued challenges in pediatric anesthesia during COVID-19 in 2022: An international survey from the pediatric anesthesia COVID-19 collaborative
CONCLUSION: Our study found that COVID-19 has continued to impact pediatric anesthesiology. There are major discrepancies between what anesthesiologists believe are important for job satisfaction and faculty retention compared to implemented initiatives. Data from this survey provide insight for institutions and departments for addressing these challenges.PMID:37732382 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14762

Can variants, reinfection, symptoms and test types affect COVID-19 diagnostic performance? A large-scale retrospective study of AG-RDTs during circulation of Delta and Omicron variants, Czechia, December 2021 to February 2022
ConclusionSensitivity for Omicron was lower in subgroups that may become more common if SARS-CoV-2 becomes an endemic virus.PMID:37733239 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.38.2200938

Review: Factors influencing parents' decisions to vaccinate children against COVID-19
CONCLUSION: This review identified critical factors affecting parents' vaccination behavior for their children. Awareness of these factors may reduce parents' COVID-19 vaccine refusal for their children and guide future planning and development of public health studies.PMID:37735055 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.09.020

Barriers to the success of COVID-19 immunisation programs in New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea
CONCLUSION: Vaccine hesitancy is a significant problem that has the potential to negatively affect population-level health. An urgent focused effort to strengthen immunisation programs in PNG is evident. Preventative primary health care is a national priority; however, for the successful delivery of vaccination initiatives, well-formed immunisation programs that include education that will dispel myths and misinformation are required.PMID:37730242 | DOI:10.22605/RRH7883

Paediatric COVID-19 vaccination coverage and associated factors among migrant and non-migrant children aged 5-11 years in Aotearoa New Zealand: A population-level retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that NZ's paediatric COVID-19 vaccination programme was able to address logistical and motivational barriers commonly identified amongst migrants and refugees.IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH: As parents' vaccination status is an important factor in vaccinating their own children, continuous efforts are needed to support confident parental COVID-19 vaccine decision-making. To address social inequities, engagement with marginalised communities to co-design tailored and localised approaches is recommended.PMID:37729755 | DOI:10.1016/j.anzjph.2023.100086
